La Marea Roja once again meet the USA in the Gold Cup knockout stages, having been defeated by their Northern neighbors in the 2005 final, and once again in the 2007 quarters. It certainly won’t be an easy task for the Americans, as Panama has played well over the course of the tournament, losing narrowly to Guadeloupe despite dominating the final stages, battling Mexico (literally) to a draw, and crushing Nicaragua. This performance makes our World Cup failure even more tough to take, as surely Panama could have done some damage in the final round. But alas.
While this US team is young, they are dangerous, with the likes of Holden, Rogers and even Davy Arnaud turning in some good performances. I am going to go ahead and predict the upset however. Blas Perez will get the first, and with the US pushing to find an equalizer, Tejada will get the second, for a 2-0 upset.
Anyone else have predictions?
Panama 4 Nicaragua 0
Guadeloupe 2 Panama 1

So while the Panamanian national side won’t be travelling to South Africa in a year and a half, they can console themselves with a UNCAF Nations Cup title and an appearance in this summers Gold Cup, a tournament where they performed very well in the 2007 edition.
Despite having to come up against three sides who are already into the ... [read more]
So first off, my apologies. I completely and utterly forgot I had this blog until today….and Panama is already eliminated from qualifying for WC2010!! Gutted really that I didn’t even have a chance to preview the campaign at all, or write any match reports (although they weren’t pretty, believe me).
The long and short of it is in the many layered ... [read more]

Clearly that's not a real cannon ball (the second) because the net would have a circular hole in it, but in what world did people think this was a smart idea? Of course a smart idea has never gained one YouTube infamy, so I guess a cannon it is. This ...
Découvrez le « Menu Paris Saint-Germain » avec notre Fournisseur Officiel McDonald’s IDF http://t.co/SnrQMD5Pre pic.twitter.com/M6kyopSUrL— PSG Officiel (@PSG_inside) December 5, 2013 Most of the jokes centering upon McDonald's sneaking into the football arena involve American-owned clubs or those employing Adriano or other once-iconic now-tubby superstars. But it's PSG who would like ...
The video is well over a month old, but the world can be forgiven for overlooking the Finnish third division, right? Right. Thankfully, the video also provides running commentary as well as a wonderfully obstructed viewpoint from the stands. And if you pay attention, you'll notice that it's not quite the ...
If this happened in America, this child would rebel by becoming an Ajax fan and they'd film an entire reality show based whlly upon the family dysfunction as a result. As it stands, however, this kid could very well grow up to become this kid. Let's hope there's a ...
Tis the season, which means plenty of footballers getting into the spirit on YouTube - and of all clubs, it always seems as though Manchester City is at the forefront of the holidays. Maybe because they can afford the most gifts? Who knows. John Guidetti is definitely...embracing the spirit. That's being ...
A rehearsal was held for the 2014 World Cup draw taking part on Friday in Bahia, which meant a simulated draw was whipped out of the bowls or hats or whatever the hell they'll use. Judging by that draft draw, there are a lot of federations which won't be sleeping ...
The spate of solid World Cup commercials has begun. Next up is Paolo Rossi's spot for VISA, taking him back to Brazil to remind them of the terror he unleashed in 1982 with a hat trick in Spain. Presumably the next one is a very resigned Roberto Baggio taking heat ...
Adidas launched the official ball for the 2014 World Cup, called the brazuca. Which sounds vaguely like something Kramer and Frank Costanza would've whipped up. They had models and dubstep but not a soul who thought to change the name to something which sounds less like a brassiere for the ...
